Kevin Gardner ,
author of The Granite Kiss: Traditionsand Techniques of Building New England Stone Walls, delivers an informal
talk touching on the history, technique, stylistic development, and aesthetics
of the stone wall.
He explains how and
why New England came to acquire its thousands of miles of stone wall, the ways
in which they and other dry stone structures were built, how their styles
emerged and changed over time, and their significance to the famous New England landscape.
Restoration tips and techniques,
the differences between historical and contemporary wall-builders, along with a
generous Q and A, round out the evening.
Copies of The Granite Kiss
will be available for sale.
This free event is open to the public, and is co-sponsored
by the Litchfield Historical Society.
